Welcome to Hoopes Vision, where we specialize in restoring vision through advanced cornea transplant surgery. Our team of expert surgeons and cornea specialists use the latest techniques and technology to perform cornea transplant surgery to restore your vision and improve your quality of life.

Cornea transplant surgery is for patients with severe damage to all or part of their cornea and is often referred to as keratoplasty or a corneal graft. It can improve sight, relieve pain and treat severe infection or damage.

What to Expect During Cornea Transplant Surgery

During corneal transplant surgery, our surgeon will remove a circular piece of the damaged cornea from the center of your eye using a circular cutting instrument (similar to a cookie cutter) called a trephine and replace the damaged cornea with the donated cornea. The surgery usually takes less than an hour. If surgery involves the transplantation of the outer cornea, the new outer cornea is held in place with stitches, which usually stay in for more than 12 months.

Most patients can return to work two to three weeks after corneal transplant surgery if their job does not require physical strain. If your job requires manual labor, you can return three to four months after surgery.

Your vision will continue to improve for up to one year following your surgery. However, you will need glasses or contact lenses after surgery because the corneal transplant curve cannot match your natural cornea's curve.

Our surgeons are experienced in several types of cornea transplant surgery, including traditional penetrating keratoplasty and newer, minimally invasive procedures. We'll work with you during your consultation to determine which surgery best suits your needs.

At Hoopes Vision, we're committed to providing our patients with the highest quality of care and treatment. We understand that every patient's needs are unique, and we'll work with you to create a personalized treatment plan to meet your specific needs.
