HOOPES VISION Clinical Research

Since our founding in the Salt Lake City area in 2000, Hoopes Vision has been committed to offering patients the newest, safest, most innovative vision correction technologies and procedures. Even in the years before opening the practice which bears his name, founder Phillip C. Hoopes, Sr., MD was a pioneer and early adopter of such revolutionary (at the time) technologies as ultrasound phacoemulsification and laser refractive surgery. Upon establishing Hoopes Vision, Dr. Hoopes continued to offer leading edge technology to patients, including bringing the first blade-free, wavefront-guided, and wavefront-optimized LASIK procedures to Salt Lake City.

A natural outgrowth of that commitment to innovation is our long-standing and continued involvement in clinical research. At our state-of-the-art facility in Draper, Utah, the research center occupies a dedicated wing where trials of new devices, procedures, drugs, and other technologies are conducted under the guidance of Dr. Majid Moshirfar, Director of Clinical Research.

In April 2015, Hoopes-Rivera Clinical Research Center merged with Durrie Vision Research of Overland Park, Kansas. The newly renamed Hoopes, Durrie, Rivera Research brought together two of the nation’s leading ophthalmic research facilities to provide expanded insight and development in the field of refractive surgery. The new entity is headquartered at our Draper facility, conducting clinical trials here as well as at Durrie Vision in Kansas City. This merger has resulted in an increasing number of and access to national clinical trials and other cutting-edge technologies and diagnostics resulting from the research.

Expanding the boundaries of surgical vision correction has always been a vitally important part of our mission at Hoopes Vision. At any given time, HDR Research is involved in numerous clinical trials, testing the safety and efficacy of new technologies.
