DR. PHIL HOOPES, JR.: A lot of people are concerned that LASIK’s gonna be a painful procedure. What’s nice about LASIK is, having had it myself, I feel like I can tell patients what to expect. When you walk into the LASIK suite, you’re gonna be offered a Valium. And I recommend that patients take it because it’s gonna allow you to feel more comfortable, during the surgery. During LASIK, I think the most painful part, for me, was getting the numbing drops. Any numbing drop that we use will sting for about ten seconds. But once the eye has been numbed on the surface, the rest of LASIK is pretty comfortable for patients. It’ll be about 45-second period, for each eye, where you feel pressure on the eye, as if somebody was poking in. Above and beyond pressure, I tell people not to worry about a thing.
