Jen Hudak is no stranger to risk. In fact, some observers might say it’s her stock-in-trade. As a two-time medalist at the World Championships and five-time medalist at the Winter X-Games in the high-flying sport of half-pipe skiing, she’s used to lightning speed, 1080 degree spins, and catching huge air, with nothing but her reflexes and training to ensure she lands on her skis.
When it came to surgery on her eyes, however, Jen was all about safety and proven results. As she prepares to pursue an Olympic dream made newly possible by the inclusion of half-pipe skiing in the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics, Jen decided it was time to look into LASIK surgery to get rid of the contact lenses she had worn for most of her life. Her research and inquiries into LASIK vision correction surgery providers – Whom can I trust? Who has the most experience? Who has the most advanced LASIK technology? – led Jen to Utah’s Hoopes Vision.
After thorough pre-operative testing, she had blade-free custom LASIK performed on both eyes by Dr. Phillip C. Hoopes, Sr. in May. At her post-op checkup the next morning, Jen was already seeing better than 20/20! Now free from glasses and contact lenses, Jen is back to training and working toward her dreams of Olympic glory, and we here at Hoopes Vision wish her luck!

At Hoopes Vision, we are big fans of contests and giveaways. There’s just something so great about calling someone and getting to tell them “you won”! Every year, we offer multiple opportunities for people to win free vision correction surgery through video contests, photo contests, sporting event half-time shows, and other fun events. Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of honoring one of our “Military Moms” from our recent video contest, by correcting her vision. Angela Hill is married to an active military soldier, currently deployed in Afghanistan and is also a mother. She was nominated for our contest by her mother-in-law Cindy, who also brought her to her surgery appointment.

Mothers are amazing! They are caretakers, role models, and inspirations. So many of us owe so much to them, thanks to their hard work and sacrifice. This Mother’s Day, Hoopes Vision is honoring mothers at the same time we honor another group known for hard work and sacrifice: our military. We’re going to give free custom LASIK surgeries to three deserving “military moms” in the following three categories:
- ONE to the mother of an active or former member of the military
- ONE to the wife of an active member of the military (also a mother)
- ONE to an active member of the military who is herself a mother
To nominate your mom, wife, or a military mom that you know, send in a short (under 2 minutes) video describing this mother’s hard work and dedication to her family and our country, and how vision correction surgery could change her life. Be sure to specify under which category your nominee falls. Submit your entry through the contest link on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HoopesVision). The deadline for entries is Friday May 3rd at noon. Beginning May 3rd at noon there will be one week to vote for your favorite entries, with voting ending on May 10th at noon. Winners will be announced May 10th at or about 4:00. In addition, all of the moms entered in the contest will receive a special Mother’s Day gift certificate that can be paired with our regular military discount. Additionally, Real Salt Lake will be giving each of the winners a pair of tickets to their May 25th soccer game and will be honoring them for their hard work and dedication during half-time! So give that military mom in your life a chance to have an unforgettable Mother’s Day with Hoopes Vision and Real Salt Lake.

Monday, March 18th, was Hoopes Vision Night at the Energy Solutions Arena during the Utah Jazz/New York Knicks game. Not only was it a great night for the lucky fan who won a certificate for LASIK surgery from Hoopes Vision, but also for the fans as the Jazz battled with the Knicks until the last minute. Each year we look forward to Hoopes Vision Night as an opportunity for us to give a free LASIK surgery to one lucky Jazz fan. This year four couples competed in an on-court obstacle course and layup contest while wearing vision-impairing goggles. Danielle and Dylan were our lucky winning couple, walking away with a certificate for complimentary blade-free custom LASIK surgery from Hoopes Vision. We at Hoopes Vision are proud to be trusted as the Official Eye Care and LASIK provider for the Utah Jazz, and look forward to helping the staff, team, dancers, mascot and all Jazz fans with their vision correction needs for years to come.

Dr. Michael Bradley, one of our surgeons at Hoopes Vision, was invited on KUTV 2’s Fresh Living to discuss our new vision correction center and the benefits it provides our patients looking to have LASIK, cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and other vision correction procedures. Our new facility is built from the ground-up with vision correction surgery in mind. The laser procedure room controls humidity, temperature and other factors that can affect the outcome of surgery. Our new clinic provides a relaxing and welcoming environment for testing and for patients to learn about vision correction. Our ambulatory surgical center, EyeSurg of Utah has been specifically designed to provide an ideal environment for custom laser cataract surgery, and our clinical research department will help advance new technology and procedures to improve vision.
We are excited to be able to offer the very best to our patients and to celebrate our new facility we are offering a special discount through March 2013. Come in for a tour of our facility and get $1000 off blade-free LASIK or Visian ICL surgery ($500 off per eye). Military, firefighters, police, teachers and their spouses receive an additional $100 off per eye. Visit www.hoopesvision.com for details and restrictions.

Optimedica®, manufacturer of the Catalys™ Precision Laser System, recently named Hoopes Vision a Laser Cataract Surgery Center of Excellence for our pioneering efforts in laser cataract surgery. We are honored to be one of only three cataract surgery centers in the nation to have earned this designation. Hoopes Vision is the first, and currently the only, surgery center in Utah to own a Catalys™ system. Hoopes Vision is also the only center in the world to feature both cataract laser platforms currently approved for cataract removal in the United States: the Optimedica® Catalys™ and the Alcon® LenSx™. cataract laser platforms automate the first steps in cataract surgery and provide greater precision and accuracy.
As an early adopter of this exciting new advance in cataract surgery technology, Hoopes Vision’s surgery center, EyeSurg of Utah, is regularly visited by surgeons from around the country and world to observe laser cataract surgery first-hand and learn techniques from our surgeons. Our commitment has always been to offer our patients the newest, safest, and most advanced vision correction technologies available.

Last week, Dr. Phillip C. Hoopes, Jr., made a TV appearance on ABC 4’s Good Things Utah to discuss our brand new building and state-of-the-art LASIK and cataract surgery centers. He invited everyone to stop by for a tour of the “newest eye-surgery center in America”, and announced a special discount for LASIK or ICL surgery.
The new Hoopes Vision Correction Center is home to one of the first surgical centers in the world designed specifically for laser assisted cataract surgery, EyeSurg of Utah. We want to show off our new building! We are offering a special discount to anyone who stops by to take a tour. We have water bottles and home made cookies and then we will present you with a certificate for $1,000 off ($500 per eye) LASIK or ICL surgery.
