Utah Jazz forward Jeremy Evans came to Hoopes Vision this month for a comprehensive eye exam. Jeremy, who has been a member of the Jazz since being drafted in 2010, sprang into the national consciousness by winning this year’s NBA Slam Dunk Contest as a last-minute injury replacement. “The Human Pogo Stick” clinched the win by dunking two basketballs in a single leap! We’re happy to say that Jeremy left Hoopes Vision with a big smile and a clean bill of ocular health.
Here at Hoopes Vision, we’re very proud of our associations with local sports, including Real Salt Lake, the Salt Lake Bees, and of course the Jazz. Make sure to follow our Facebook page for news of the next Hoopes Vision Night Out at one of their games!

Robert P. Rivera, MD, of Hoopes Vision, will be performing an ICL lens implant surgery that will be broadcast worldwide via streaming media. The broadcast will take place on June 21, 2012 at 6:30 MST. The broadcast will be shown to those attending a seminar to find out more about ICL surgery, but will also be available live online for anyone to view, including doctors who want to see Dr. Rivera’s surgical technique. Those in attendance will have a chance to ask Dr. Rivera questions about ICL surgery and will be entered for a chance to win a free bilateral ICL surgery. Visian ICL is a refractive surgical procedure that utilizes an Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) to correct vision imperfections. The procedure is designed for patients who do not wish to undergo LASIK or who are unable to have the procedure due to severe nearsightedness or thin corneas.
Dr. Rivera is recognized as the most experienced Visian ICL™ surgeon in the United States, and Hoopes Vision has been certified the highest volume ICL implant practice in the country. Because of his wealth of experience in this area of vision correction surgery, Dr. Rivera has been called upon frequently to share his knowledge by training other surgeons and surgical staff on the Visian ICL procedure. The upcoming live broadcast will provide doctors all over the world, as well as prospective patients, the opportunity to see the lens implant surgery and hear answers to frequently asked questions about the procedure.
“I am very passionate about this procedure as I’ve seen so many lives drastically changed with the Visian ICL,” says Rivera. “When patients who are not LASIK candidates find out there is another option, it’s very exciting. In fact, my Visian ICL patients are often my most excited and grateful patients. It is my hope that allowing patients to see a live procedure will help them see the comfort level of the patient and the improved vision immediately after surgery. I think that education like this will help many people overcome fears that are holding them back from a life less dependent on glasses and contacts.”
The surgical team at Hoopes Vision provides the Visian ICL procedure as part of a range of leading-edge vision correction procedures to cater to each patient’s unique vision needs. Patients with more questions about the Visian ICL or who would like to schedule a complimentary surgical consultation or attend the ICL education seminar may contact us at 877-305-2745.

We recently had a surprise visit from one of our LASIK patients – the Utah Jazz’s mascot Bear. He stopped by to present a plaque to the doctors of Hoopes Vision to thank them for their commitment to the Utah Jazz as the official eye care and LASIK provider of the Utah Jazz. We have worked with the Jazz for several years now and enjoy the opportunity to care for and to help improve their vision. We are already looking forward to next season.

On Friday, June 1, 2012 the final steel beam was set in place at the future home of Hoopes Vision in Draper Utah. Once complete, the nearly 60,000 square foot building will be one of the most advanced vision correction facilities in the United States.
The topping out ceremony began at noon. Those involved in the construction, and the doctors and staff of Hoopes Vision, were in attendance. Everyone had the opportunity to sign the beam before it was placed permanently atop the new structure. Topping out ceremonies are a milestone in construction of a new building and we are excited to watch the progress as the future Hoopes Vision develops.
The building should be complete and ready for us to move in later this year. We are excited for this move and the benefits it will provide our patients, including:
Shorter wait times. We value your time and want your visits to be as convenient as possible. Our new facility will more than double our current number of exam rooms, improving patient flow, increasing patient privacy and allowing patients to be seen with shorter wait times.
State-of-the-art surgical and LASIK centers. Our new surgery center will provide a larger, more open setting for our vast amount of vision correction technology. Hoopes Vision is home to the most advanced technology available for vision correction surgery including LASIK, PRK, intraocular contact lenses (ICLs), laser lens replacement and cataract surgery, and treatment for keratoconus. Once complete, our new facility will contain more LASIK/PRK lasers than any other facility in the state, and will be the first in the world designed to accommodate multiple laser cataract platforms.
This world-class surgical center will feature its own, main floor entrance for easy drop-off and pick-up, and amenities to provide an enjoyable and comfortable experience for our patients and their family on the day of surgery.
Dedicated research facility: The doctors at Hoopes Vision are among the most experienced in the field of vision correction surgery. As such, they are often invited to participate in research into ways to improve technology and processes regarding vision correction surgery. Our new building will have a dedicated research facility to help our doctors remain on the forefront of vision correction and offer our patients access to the latest and safest technologies available.
Patient Comfort: The new home for Hoopes Vision is being built from the ground up with you, our patient, in mind. Every aspect from its convenient location to every detail of its design is driven by one goal: to make a welcoming, relaxing environment where our patients can receive education, treatment and follow-up care utilizing the most up-to-date and safest technology available.
