Dr. Hoopes Named to Premier Surgeon’s PS250 List

By Hoopesvision on May 25, 2010

Dr. Phillip C. Hoopes, Chief Surgeon of Hoopes Vision, was recently named to Premier Surgeon’s PS250 list. Premier Surgeon is a new trade publication focusing on premium lens implants and lens implant surgery. Premier Surgeon’s PS250 list recognizes 250 ophthalmic surgeons that are leaders and innovators in the field of premium intraocular lens implants (IOLs) and refractive surgery.

In a process similar to traditional cataract surgery, premium IOL lens implant surgery replaces the natural crystalline lens in the eye. However, unlike traditional cataract surgery implants, these newer lenses allow the patient to see at variable distances improving both distant and near vision. These newer implants are often an ideal choice for the active Baby Boomer who is now having difficulty seeing up close (relying on bifocals or reading glasses) and/or is in the beginning stages of developing cataracts. New research into improvement of lens implant surgery is continuing to make it easier, more comfortable and more precise for the surgeon and patient.

Hoopes Vision’s 10-Year Anniversary Party with Ironman 2

By Hoopesvision on May 14, 2010

We’d like to thank everyone who came out to the Hoopes Vision 10-year anniversary party at Jordan Commons on Saturday, May 8, 2010. Around 1200 people attended to help make it a huge success. We were glad to have so many supporters from the community including the Utah Jazz bear and Dancers, Utah Flash’s Flash Fox, Leo the Lion from Real Salt Lake, Miller sports park, local radio DJs, many of our comanaging optometrist, and of course our patients!

We hope everyone had a chance to see the timeline with significant achievements that have been attained in the past ten years. The timeline will be on display in our office for people to see. We were able to take a lot of pictures of the event, and as promised, here they are.

Once again, thanks to all of those who attended. We couldn’t be what we are without the help of our fantastic staff, the community, and the patients who have trusted our doctors with their eyes.

Olympic Bobsled Medalist Valerie Flemming has Vision Corrected at Hoopes Vision

By Hoopesvision on May 14, 2010

Olympic Bobsledder, Valerie Fleming, chose Hoopes Vision for her recent vision correction procedure. During Valerie’s initial evaluation, Dr. Hoopes determined that she was a good candidate for PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy). Fleming’s Myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism were corrected in our surgery center, and she is happy to report that she is now seeing 20/20. When asked about her experience, Valerie stated “Everyone at Hoopes was extremely friendly and very helpful in explaining the process and transition of the surgery. I would definitely recommend Hoopes to future candidates”.

Valerie graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1998 with a degree in communications. While at UCSB she was a decorated track star in the javelin event. She continued her education at St. Mary’s College, earning a Master’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. She began bobsledding in 2003 and just three years later won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Torino, Italy with driver Shauna Rohbock. The team has gone on to win at least 22 international medals together, including three World Cup gold medals. When Valerie isn’t competing, she enjoys spending time with her nephews Nicholas and Brandon. Congratulations on your new perfect vision Valerie!
