Heather McPhie and Landon Gardner Compete at World Cup Ski Event Without Glasses or Contact Lenses

By Hoopesvision on March 27, 2009

We proudly watched a couple of our LASIK patients compete right here in Utah at the World Cup Ski event this year at Deer Valley Resort. The event was held January 29th and 31st. Landon Gardner and Heather McPhie of the U.S. Ski Team were competing at this event. Both Heather and Landon had IntraLASIK vision correction surgery at Hoopes Vision last year and now have vision better than 20/20. Both qualified for the finals on what was described as an icy, difficult course and skied great the next day as well finishing in the top ten. After her run on the 29th, Heather mentioned that one of her teammates had lost a contact that morning and had to race back to her apartment to get a replacement lens before the competition started. “I can’t tell you how great it is to no long have to deal with my old contact lenses and to just be able to focus on the event,” Heather said. Congratulations to both Landon and Heather on a great season so far!

Real Golf Radio Co-Host Has IntraLASIK at Hoopes Vision

By Hoopesvision on March 26, 2009

Bob Casper, co-host of Real Golf Radio and son of legendary golfer Billy Casper, came in on Tuesday for vision correction surgery. Dr. Phillip Hoopes, Jr. performed the blade-free IntraLASIK surgery. Bob had previously worn just one contact lens, leaving the other eye uncorrected in order to provide both distance and reading vision. After discussing the options with Dr. Hoopes, it was decided to perform mono-vision LASIK, correcting the distance vision in Bob’s dominant eye and leaving his non-dominant eye uncorrected. At his one-day follow-up appointment Bob was already thrilled with the results. Bob was already seeing 20/20 in the distance and was still able to read fine print. He has already signed up a family member to come in for a free LASIK evaluation. Bob sounds anxious to try his new vision out on the golf course and to see what a difference it makes for his game. Bob was referred to us by his co-host Brian Taylor who also had LASIK surgery at Hoopes Vision last year and is still seeing better than 20/20!

Real Salt Lake is gearing up for their first full season in the new Rio Tinto Stadium here in Sandy Utah. The team has been busy training of course, but some are looking to improve their game on other levels as well. Real’s assistant coach and former Major League Soccer player Robin Fraser recently came into Hoopes Vision looking to get rid of the contact lenses that he had dealt with for over a decade. Robin previously played for Los Angels Galaxy, Colorado Rapids, and Columbus Crew, and was named MLS Defender of the Year in 1999. He has worked as an assistant coach for Real since 2007. After Robin’s initial free LASIK exam, he was found to be a good LASIK candidate, and had his blade-free IntraLASIK surgery on January 19th. According to Robin, his vision after LASIK is clearer than it had been with contacts! A few Real Salt Lake players are also coming in for LASIK evaluations soon, so we will see if we can help them out as well. Read more of Robin’s LASIK experience on our testimonial page.
