All-laser IntraLASIK is a safer, more accurate way to perform the first step of LASIK surgery. Ideal for those with a high prescription or thin corneas, IntraLASIK is the latest technique designed to extend LASIK eye surgery to the patients who had once been considered ineligible. IntraLASIK is an all-laser form of LASIK eye surgery we offer to our patients from Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo, and other Utah communities. This custom IntraLase™ method uses two different lasers to create a safer experience and a more precise result. Hoopes Vision was the first vision correction practice in the Salt Lake Valley to offer IntraLASIK with the IntraLase™ FS and the first LASIK center in Utah to upgrade to the safer iFS™ Advanced Femtosecond Laser. Contact Hoopes Vision to find out whether IntraLASIK is right for you!
The first step of the two-part all-laser IntraLASIK process is to create a button-sized corneal flap on the surface of the eye. In the past, this task was accomplished with a surgical razor blade and a handheld microkeratome. However, Hoopes Vision surgeons perform this step with a state-of-the-art laser: the iFS IntraLase™ laser keratome. This laser allows light to focus on a small central point beneath the corneal surface to create the flap from the inside out. The iFS IntraLase™ laser greatly improves the precision and accuracy of flap creation, with 100 percent greater accuracy, and eliminates most of the serious complications and risk of dry eye experienced with the microkeratome blade used in traditional LASIK.
Always eager to adopt technology that will improve the patient’s satisfaction and make the process safer and more efficient, we were the first LASIK practice in Utah with the new iFS™ Advanced Femtosecond Laser. The iFS™ Laser improves upon the IntraLase™ FS Laser by improving the speed at which the flap is cut without sacrificing precision and accuracy. Fully customizable, the iFS™ Laser creates a corneal flap in less than 10 seconds. Its lower energy output may also help reduce inflammation. Its unique bevel-in flap edge creates a more secure flap and improves healing beyond older versions of IntraLase™.
In the last step of the procedure, the surgeon gently lifts the corneal flap and applies excimer laser pulses to reshape the cornea according to specific measurements, and returns the flap to its original position.
Your vision will begin to improve quickly, and you will be able to resume your normal activities soon thereafter. Most people see improvement within a few hours and are usually seeing very well by the next morning, however each patient heals differently, and your progress will be checked on your one-day follow-up appointment. Our surgeons will prescribe eye drops to improve your comfort after surgery and help speed recovery.
