Patients who wish to improve their eyesight without undergoing laser eye surgery can still obtain better vision by other means. Intraocular lens (IOL) implantation surgery to place ReSTOR®, Visian ICL™, crystalens®, ReZoom™, or Verisyse™ lenses at our Utah practice, located in Sandy between Provo and Ogden, can be a viable and effective option for many patients. To learn more about the procedure and the IOL options we offer, please contact our Salt Lake City-area practice to schedule an appointment.
Many people are either not eligible for laser vision correction due to extreme prescription, thin corneas, or the presence of cataracts or prefer not to undergo laser surgeries. For these patients, the implantation of an intraocular lens through IOL placement surgery at our Salt Lake City-area practice near Provo can help to improve vision.
Intraocular lenses – also referred to as IOLs – are implantable lenses that take the place of the natural crystalline lens after it has been removed during cataract surgery. The first IOLs were monofocal and thus able to correct sight for only one type of vision (far, immediate, or near) at a time. However, more recent intraocular lenses are multifocal and can improve vision for various distances all at once.
ReSTOR®, ReZoom™, and crystalens® intraocular lenses are used for many of our Utah patients who are undergoing cataract surgery, as well as for those who suffer from presbyopia and wish to rid themselves of their contact lenses and glasses. Though they work in different ways, the ReSTOR®, ReZoom™, crystalens®, and Verisyse™ IOLs allow the patient receiving treatment to see better at various distances.

ReSTOR® intraocular lenses consist of a lens surface that rises in concentric rings. This design, called diffractive apodization, allows for an even gathering and distribution of light that facilitates improved vision at both near and far distances. The ReSTOR® intraocular lens (IOL) surgery can be performed at our Salt Lake City-area practice on patients who wish to see clearly after cataract surgery and on those who wish to eliminate dependency on corrective lenses.
ReZoom™ IOLs work by creating numerous points of focus, allowing for revolutionary multifocal abilities. These effective, quick treatments for impaired vision are ideal for patients who have difficulty reading, driving at night, seeing objects at close distances, or seeing objects at far distances. The ReZoom™ intraocular lens placement surgery performed at our Utah vision institute, which serves Salt Lake City and surrounding areas such as Provo, can also be ideal for those who are ineligible for corrective laser surgery.
Unlike the ReZoom™ and ReSTOR® IOLs, crystalens® intraocular lens implants allow for natural focusing by working with the ciliary muscles, the muscles that the natural lens uses to accommodate for near, distance, and intermediate vision. The crystalens® IOL's revolutionary mechanism – flexible hinges within the lens – allows the lens to move backward and forward using the movement of the muscles, affording the wearer optimal vision at all distances.

Verisyse™ is proven to correct moderate to severe nearsightedness. The procedure involves placing the Verisyse™ IOL inside your eye to provide high-quality, high-definition vision without the need for glasses or contacts in most situations. Although Verisyse™ is intended to be permanent, the micro lens can be removed if desired. Because the Verisyse™ lens attaches to the front of the iris, rather than behind, it is slightly visible and thus seldom used, although it may still be an option.

People who wish to avoid or are unable to undergo laser vision correction have yet another intraocular lens (IOL) alternative available at our Salt Lake City-area vision institute. Implantable contact lenses (ICLs) are a low-risk, effective way to improve nearsightedness and other vision conditions.
The Visian ICL™ Implantable Collamer® Lens, is a type of intraocular contact lens that is implanted behind the iris and in front of the natural lens to help those who suffer from nearsightedness or farsightedness. The Visian ICL™ affords patients who have it implanted at our Utah-leading vision practice fantastic results. Those who undergo the intraocular lens surgery to place the Visian ICL™ are liberated from the constraints of contact lenses and glasses. The reliability, safety, and superior results of the Visian Implantable Collamer® Lens make it a wonderful option for those who are not good LASIK or custom LASIK candidates.
