Our spacious facility is considered to be one of the finest in the country. It is divided into four areas: the clinical area, where patients are seen and examined for their pre- and postoperative care by our Salt Lake City, Utah-area LASIK surgeons and optometrists; our state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center (ASC), EyeSurg of Utah; the Laser and Refractive Surgery Center; and a clinical research facility. His Kansas City practice was one of the few centers in the country to be involved with the FDA clinical trials and testing that led to the approval of many of the laser systems used today for LASIK surgery. The first official laser procedure after FDA approval was actually performed at his center. Dr. Hoopes also performed the first Summit Technology laser procedure for myopia and astigmatism after FDA approval on March 16, 1998. This ultramodern, 20,000-square-foot facility is equipped with its own freestanding, two-operating room ambulatory surgery center, as well as an excimer laser room and research center. The LASIK surgery center houses the new iFS IntraLase™ laser, which creates safer and more precise corneal flaps and five wavefront or wavefront optimized eximer lasers including: Utah's first Allegretto Wave™ Eye-Q 400, Utah's first Carl Zeiss MEL 80™ as well as the VISX® CustomVue™ with iris registration, Alcon LADARVision® CustomCornea®, and Bausch & Lomb Technolas® 217. Besides recognizing Dr. Hoopes for his contributions to laser eye surgery, he was acknowledged as the country’s second highest volume Allegretto Wave surgeon.
